Louie Weaver "Dismissed" From Petra
Long-time Drummer Left Band in February, Band Announces
Twenty-two year Petra veteran Louie Weaver is out as the band's drummer. The band's manager issued a statement: "Louie Weaver, has been a faithful member of Petra for many years, unfortunately the band and Louie have come to an impasse and he will not be performing with us any longer. We have all sought the Lord for a long time in prayer and council and feel that this is the Lord's will for this situation. We hold no ill feelings toward Louie and we wish him and his family all the best in whatever God's called him to next."
The band is currently working in the studio with producer Peter Furler making what they call "a classic Petra Rock Record" which sould go on sale around August.
Meanwhile, Weaver has issued a statement saying he was dismissed from service to the band on February 8th, 2003.
Weaver, the person to have performed with this group for the most number of years consecutively, says he was “shocked” and “surprised” that such a decision was made by current band leader John Schlitt and Schlitt’s personal manager, Wayne Seboa.
Weaver says, “Although I am saddened by this decision, I know the Lord is already opening doors that I had never dreamed of.” Louie sites 2nd Timothy chapter 2 verse 15: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” He (Weaver) continues, “For a long time I’ve felt God has given me a vision for ministry, especially ministry in music and praise to Him. Petra was part of my life for 22 years. It was a wonderful blessing to me and my family, but sometimes the Lord brings circumstances into your life where choices will be made for you, so you go forward with a new calling that He brings into your life.”
Acknowledging his love for Jesus Christ and his heartfelt belief that the Lord continues to call him to a music ministry, Louie says, “The Lord has always been in control of our lives and He is the one who directs and guides our steps. I am excited to see what the Lord is going to do as we walk in obedience to Him.” Weaver continues, “I thank God for all He has given me and am happy to let you know that we will be continuing on in ministry for Him. That ministry, governed by a Christ-centered board of men and women, will be called “Louie Weaver Ministries International.” This musical entourage is already hard at work writing and preparing to record new material for praise and worship to Christ our Lord. The first project is tentatively called “Louie Weaver and Friends.”
